SOMETHING MORE

BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The CIRASIM project aims to research the opportunities and challenges of implementing “cold ironing” technology in selected ports – Ploče, Ancona, Durres, Volos, and Belgrade. This technology allows ships to be powered by electricity from the shore while they are docked, thereby reducing emissions of harmful gases, in accordance with EU Directive 2014/94/EU. By analyzing the specific factors of each port, such as vessel types and infrastructural limitations, the project will identify common and individual challenges and propose solutions to overcome them. Finally, an online tool will be developed to help partners assess the benefits of implementing “cold ironing” technology in order to achieve carbon neutrality.

Project goals

CIRASIM is an analysis and understanding of the potential for applying “cold ironing” technology in selected ports, identifying challenges and potential within their infrastructural and operational frameworks, and developing solutions for the sustainable reduction of CO2 emissions. The project also aims to provide a practical online tool to support ports in assessing the benefits and efficiency of implementing this technology in order to achieve zero emissions.
